You know those days when even getting out of bed feels like climbing Mount Everest and somehow scrolling through social media for the 15th time seems like a better option than tackling even one simple task? If you're lying there right now, feeling like you've lost your motivation, you're not alone. I'm right there with you. Yesterday, I found myself staring at my computer screen for 20 minutes and then deciding that reorganizing my sock drawer was suddenly an urgent priority. Anything to avoid the work that actually needed doing. And we all have these periods where our motivation seems to have packed its bags and gone on vacation. Tonight we're going to gently restore that sense of purpose and motivation while guiding you into a deep restorative sleep. The beautiful thing about addressing motivation while you sleep is that we're connecting directly with your subconscious mind, the part of you that holds incredible wisdom. But first, I'm going to assume that you're listening to this right now in bed with the soft glow of your phone illuminating your face. Maybe one earbud has slipped out and by now is lost somewhere in your sheets. If that's not the case, if you're not in bed, this probably isn't the best time for our journey. Please make sure you're somewhere safe before drifting off to sleep. And if you're enjoying these episodes, please consider following the podcast.Hypnotherapy works best when practiced regularly. It's like training a muscle that keeps getting stronger every time you use it. Plus, your follows are what keeps this show ad-free and going strong. And I'm genuinely grateful for each and every one of you who tunes in regularly. So let's begin by finding a comfortable position. You might be lying on your back or perhaps on your side with a pillow supporting your head and another between your knees. Whatever position feels most natural and comfortable for your body right now is perfect. Take a moment to settle in, feeling the weight of your body sinking into the bed beneath you. Feel how the mattress cradles you, how your pillows support your head, and how your blanket creates a cocoon of warmth and safety around you. And now let's turn our attention to your breathing. There's no need to change anything about it just yet. Simply observe the natural rhythm of your breath.Feel the cool air entering your body and the warm air leaving your body. With your next breath, I invite you to inhale a little more deeply. Fill your lungs completely, letting your abdomen expand like a balloon. And hold that breath for just a moment before you release it slowly through your mouth, creating a gentle sound like a sigh. Let's do this again. Breathe in deeply through your nose.Hold and release slowly through your mouth. As you continue breathing naturally, I want you to begin releasing any tension you might be holding in your body. With each exhale, imagine that tension melting away like ice under warm sunshine. Start with your forehead. Notice if there's any tightness there. Any furrowed brows. And as you exhale, feel that tension dissolving. Move down to your jaw, an area where we often hold so much tension without realizing it. Allow your jaw to loosen.Feel the release as those muscles soften and relax. Continue this journey down through your body, your neck, your shoulders, your arms, your hands, your hips, your legs, and finally your feet. With each area, simply notice any tension and then allow it to melt away with your breath. There's nothing you need to do, nowhere you need to go. Just this moment of complete peace and relaxation. And as you rest here, I'd like you to bring your awareness to your motivation and not from a place of judgment or concern, but simply as an observer.Maybe you can imagine your motivation as a flame inside you. Sometimes this flame burns bright and strong, warming your entire being and illuminating your path forward. Other times, like perhaps recently, this flame may flicker low, feeling small and fragile.Know that this is part of the natural rhythm of life, just as we experience seasons of growth and rest in nature. Our internal motivation also has its own cycles, but the flame never truly goes out. It simply waits for fresh fuel and a gentle breath to help it grow strong again. Now, I invite you to join me on a journey to a special place, a place that exists within your imagination, where we can nurture this flame and prepare it to burn brightly again when you awake. But before we begin this journey, let's deepen your relaxation even further. I'm going to count down slowly from 10 to 1. With each number, you'll feel yourself sinking deeper into a state of peaceful relaxation.10. Your breathing is slow and deep. 9. 8. 7. Your eyelids are becoming heavier now, as if tiny weights are attached to each eyelash.6. 5. Halfway there. 4. 3. Any remaining thoughts in your mind are becoming distant, like clouds drifting away. 2. And 1. You have now reached a deep peaceful state of relaxation.Your conscious mind is quiet, and your subconscious mind is open. Imagine yourself walking along a gentle path through a peaceful forest. It's evening and the world is quiet and still. The air feels cool and fresh against your skin. The path beneath your feet is soft with fallen leaves and moss. Each step feels effortless, as if the earth itself is supporting your journey forward. You continue walking until the path opens into a small clearing. In the center of this clearing stands an ancient stone circle, and within it a fire pit. The embers in this pit glow softly in the dark night, warm but low. You understand intuitively that this fire represents your inner motivation, the drive that propels you forward in life. Right now it's not extinguished, but it's not burning as brightly as it could. Approach the fire circle and take a seat on one of the smooth stones surrounding it, and feel the cool stone beneath you, solid and supportive.Gaze into the glowing embers, and take a few deep breaths. I want you to remember a time when you felt truly motivated and alive. It might be a recent memory, or something from long ago.It might be related to work, a personal project, a relationship, or simply a moment when you felt fully engaged with life. Take your time to find this memory, and when you have it, bring it fully into your awareness. See what you saw during that time, hear what you heard, and feel what you felt in your body.Really allow yourself to experience those feelings again. Notice how the embers in the fire begin to glow a little brighter, and now gently place your hands toward the fire, palms facing the embers. Feel the warmth against your skin, and as you do this, I'd like you to think about what truly matters to you, what gives your life meaning and purpose. These don't have to be grand, world-changing things. They can be simple joys, meaningful connections, small acts of creation or care. These values and connections are the sustainable fuel for your motivation. As you recognize them, imagine them as pieces of wood that you're gently adding to the fire. With each piece, the flames grow a little higher, a little stronger. Now think about the very next small step that you could take towards something meaningful to you.Not the entire journey, just the first tiny step. Perhaps it's simply opening a document, putting on your running shoes, picking up the phone, or whatever small action would represent movement in a positive direction. Imagine yourself taking that small step with ease.See yourself moving forward without resistance, simply flowing into action naturally, like water flowing downhill. As you hold this image, notice how the fire grows stronger still, flames dancing higher. With the fire now burning steadily, I invite you to look up at the sky. It's now dawn, and the first golden rays of sunlight are beginning to stream through the trees, illuminating the clearing with warm light. This light represents a new day, filled with fresh potential. As the sunlight grows stronger, feel its warmth combining with the heat of the fire. This combined warmth begins to spread through your body, creating a sense of gentle peace and quiet readiness that's stored within you. You don't need to use this energy now. In fact, I invite you to simply let it rest within you, like a seed planted in fertile soil. This energy will remain with you as you sleep, ready when you choose to call upon it. Now, as the light fills the clearing, you notice a comfortable place to rest has appeared nearby. Perhaps a hammock strung between two trees, or blankets prepared on a bed of soft moss.Make your way to this resting place and settle in. The fire continues to burn steadily in the circle. You've done the important work of reconnecting with your motivation. It's time to rest. The warmth of the sun and the fire wrap around you like the most comfortable blanket. Your eyes begin to feel heavy. There's nothing else you need to do now except rest. Let yourself drift, knowing that the rekindled flame of motivation remains safe within you. The boundary between the forest clearing and your comfortable bed begins to blur. You're safe, you're supported, and you're exactly where you need to be. Simply rest here, breathing slowly and deeply, allowing yourself to drift towards sleep naturally. For now, there is only this moment of perfect peace, this journey into restful sleep.Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply rest and sleep. Tomorrow may bring a fresh perspective, or maybe just enough energy to take one small step. And sometimes that one step is all we need to find our way forward again.Drift away. The world will still be there tomorrow, and so will your strength, perhaps a little brighter and a little steadier than before. Sleep now.Sleep deeply. Sleep well.
